I had previously purchased-and enjoyed-the "box set" of the Fourth Doctor's "Lost Stories". This purchase was something of a test, as the Sixth Doctor and Peri are my least favorite doctor and companion. Despite that admitted prejudice, I thoroughly enjoyed the piece, and will consider another from this group of stories. Peri, while still annoying in some ways, came across as less shrill and helpless than I remembered from the TV shows, and perhaps not being forced to look at his wardrobe was of help to me in appreciating Colin Baker's doctor. The story manages to bring together Christopher Marlowe and a mysterious Aztec artifact through the agency of a mysterious Spanish necromancer. Magic and Elizabethan foreign policy make for strange yet fascinating bedfellows, as the Doctor falls into the hands of Lord Francis Walsingham in an effort to save a developing giant of English literature. This is a rather dark and adult story, which I would not recommend for younger fans.Product details

Doctor Who The Lost Stories Point of Entry (Audible Audio Edition) Barbara Clegg Marc Platt Colin Baker Nicola Bryant Big Finish Productions Books Reviews
Once again, a Doctor Who story with a more fantasy bent...where, of course, the fantasy is just sufficiently advanced science. The Doctor and Peri crash land in old England and meet the playwright Kit Marlowe, currently writing his masterpiece, "Faust." It appears his inspiration for a story of a man who sells his soul to the Devil has some major inspiration Kit himself! The Doctor and Peri must face down sinister cult members to save the life of the writer before he is killed and leaves his great work unfinished!
And, you know. Save the Earth, too.
In 1985 Doctor Who had become unpopular with some in the BBC who thought the show had become too violent. While the writers were preparing stories for season 23, these would eventually be scrapped for a new story arc, "Trial of a Time Lord," meant to change the tone of the show. Several of these "lost" stories, which were never made, would eventually see production as Big Finish audio dramas.
Point of Entry is one of the scripted stories that could have been part of season 23. The story centers on Kit Marlowe's dangerous relationship with a necromancer called Valez and an Aztec knife that demands sacrifice. The knife's power is rooted in a dark alien intelligence that only the Doctor and Peri can uncover.
The Elizabethan atmosphere of the story is convincing and the voice acting is excellent all around. Particularly enjoyable is Luis Soto's portrayal of the mystic Valez. While it would have been interesting to see a television version of this script, as an audio drama this script works particularly well and lends itself to a mysteriousness and darkness that would have been hard to capture on screen.
This psuedo-historical explores playwrite and spy Kit Marlowe's dealing with the dark side and the occult. This story definitely leans strongly towards horror and there are a few dark scenes that lean towards being unpleasant, such as when Peri is abandoned by Marlowe.
The story has some eerie and creepy moments, but there are a few nice moments of comedy worked in. (The Doctor as "The Queen's" (i.e. Peri's wigbearer was hilarious.) Luis Soto is superb as the sinister Velez, while the rest of the guest cast performs well-enough.
I did think that they story was a bit padded and crawled in some places. For much of the story, the Doctor is left with not a lot to do. Still, it's an interesting and mostly engaging listen.
